Digging For Diamonds, Camping in Herkimer NY
Still going with the theme of some old content I had the pleasure of going gem hunting with my family in June. My stepdad has been going for years now to Herkimer NY to mine for diamonds and then creates jewelry out of his findings. This year we decided to make it a family outing so Spencer and I drove to upstate New York to join them for a weekend of camping and digging in the dirt & smashing rocks.
I would never have thought it would be so much fun! It was thrilling when you saw one shining through the mud or break into a pocket of lots of them. It was also the weekend of the annual pig and dig at the Crystal Grove Campground we stayed at. This was such a fun weekend getaway especially for my nieces and nephews who also enjoyed the thrill of hunting for diamonds.
This was also Spencer’s first time sleeping in a tent & it was a success because he was already looking at buying a tent of our own. We will definitely be going on more camping trips next Spring & Summer, as they are such an affordable option to explore new places. We were lucky that my mom had the camper though so we could go there to enjoy the glamping experience. It was also his first time meeting my stepdad’s mom who was in town all the way from Arizona! It was good for the soul to spend a weekend unplugged because there was no service with the family.
Do you enjoy camping? Or is totally not for you? I have to say it is something I have grown to love but hated as a kid. Maybe it is because I appreciate nature more now who knows please share your thoughts in the comments!
